Welcome to this week’s edition of Rough Draft, a newsletter for unfinished electronic music. If you’re interested in submitting music for the newsletter, reply directly to this email or get in touch with me directly. If you’re new to the newsletter and want to listen to any previous editions, you can find them all here. I’m always happy to pass on any feedback.
I hope you’re doing alright. You probably get enough emails about the current pandemic. In lieu of any more news, I just want to encourage you to stay at home. If you’re in need of support, I have a bunch of links in last week’s email for artist resources, short-term work, and funding for creatives. If you know of something that’s worth sharing, reply to this email. I would love to share it around.
With all that being said, I have three wonderful tracks to share this week. Give them a listen and leave your first thoughts on the track directly, or in a reply to this email. Music is just below the photo.

Furtive — “oneirogen draft”
Lilting, dreamlike, and potent, this track is a journey through space lead by a wandering synth line. A long-time listener, Furtive is based out of Washington, D.C. and is looking for advice around how to better arrange the track, as well as any thoughts on the its mixing. In his own words, the track “tries to work with harmonic sensibilities that I normally skip over in favor of sound design weirdness, so reassurance and insights would be appreciated.” Listen here.1980 Special Twin — “ASComp”
1980 Special Twin is a project by a Pittsburgh-based producer. They sampled sounds from a motorcycle of the same name and constructed some gristly, industrial music from the recordings. They’ve asked for feedback on how to optimize the mix of this track for a dancefloor, and in particular any advice that would make it a good fit for a DJ set. Listen here.a.s.t — “tolls / fearless”
Crunchy, driving, and just enough funk to keep things interesting, a.s.t has submitted a pair of tracks that would feel right at home in the 4am set of a warehouse party. The New York-based producer has asked for feedback on the mixing or arrangement of the track, but any feedback is welcome.
That’s all I have for you this week. If you have any thoughts on any of the music, hit reply. Stay home, stay healthy, and check in on your friends. I’ll see you soon.
